Process
Lines, planes, curves, axis, composition etc combines to define a form. This module focus on understanding the form in three dimension, identifying the key elements which defines its character. To achieve the following composition was created by students wearing stockings, further selecting the images which depicts the emotion distraction, identifying their center axis. This axis is further manipulated by adding mass in different manner via different material techniques. The final material explored is metal wire mesh.
Form depicting Emotion of Distraction
The emotion of distraction can be defined as a composition which is unbalanced, unstable, which does not have a specific focal point creating eye movement in various directions,
A cube of 4" X 4" X 4" is divided into grid of 1" X 1" in which radii manipulation is exercised to achieve desired emotion of distraction.
A block of 4" X 1" is manipulated through removal of material to achieve the emotion of distraction.
Aluminium wire and steel wire are used to create wire frame structure to achieve desired emotion. One distinction in wire frame is that it doesn't have any solid structure however it can create an illusion of volume.
Volume is added to selected line drawing in different materials to achieve similar emotion. It is found wire mesh structure best represents emotion of Distraction for the following design.
Final Product
Final model is a wire mesh structure which due to several lines in it creates diversion for eyes, creating several focus points which leads to distraction. Wire mesh also shows a huge contrast with the base which is a reflection of the above form but aligned differently.
